Perhelatan akbar Academy Awards, selasa 25 Januari mulai mengumumkan film-film beserta jajaran insan perfilman mana saja yang masuk dalam jajaran terbaik. Oscar, begitulah ajang penghargaan tertinggi ini disebut dimana kali ini telah memasuki tahunnya yang ke-83. Pengumuman nominasi kali ini sedikitnya memberi kejutan didua kategori utama, dimana nama Javier Bardem tiba-tiba muncul sebagai calon terbaik di kategori Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. Dan yang paling mengejutkan dan menjadi bahan perbincangan adalah tidak masuknya nama Christopher Nolan dalam jajaran nominasi Best Achievement in Directing. Banyak yang menyesalkan hal ini dan menganggap juri-juri Oscar seakan menutup mata dengan penyutradaraan brilian Nolan lewat Inception.
The King's Speech malam itu menjadi film yang paling banyak mengumpulkan nominasi. Dari 24 nominasi yang ada, film arahan Tom Hooper itu meraih 12 nominasi. Diikuti oleh Inception dan The Social Network yang sama-sama mengemas 8 nominasi. Disusul The Fighter (7 nominasi), 127 Hours (6 nominasi) dan Black Swan serta Toy Story 3 keduanya sama-sama memperoleh 5 nominasi. Untuk gelaran utamanya sendiri akan diadakan di Kodak Theatre, Hollywood tanggal 27 Februari 2011.
